Aleksandra Wakefield
Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Welcome to AW Talk Therapy. I am Alex, a qualified Person-Centred counsellor & psychotherapist, and I work with young adults and adults. I offer face-to-face sessions in Derby, as well as online and telephone sessions for those who prefer support from the comfort of their own space. I can provide therapy in English, Serbian, Bosnian, and Croatian, so you can choose the language that best supports you.

I understand that taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, and finding the right therapist isn’t always easy. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and client-focused. I believe that together we can explore the challenges you’re facing in a safe and supportive environment.

If you’re experiencing anxiety, low mood, difficulties with self-esteem, navigating life transitions, or even if it’s something you can’t quite put into words yet - therapy can help you find clarity and a greater sense of self-awareness.

To make starting a little easier, I offer a free 20-minute consultation call. This gives you the chance to share what brings you to therapy, ask any questions, and get a sense of whether my approach might be the right fit for you before committing.

Taking the first step is often the hardest, so if you’re ready to begin your therapeutic journey, I’d be glad to walk alongside you.

Education & qualifications

I believe that offering safe and meaningful therapeutic support begins with a solid foundation, not just in training and credentials, but in a continued commitment to growth, reflection, and ethical practice. Here's a little more about my background and how it shapes the way I work:

Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am a member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I adhere to their Ethical Framework, which provides the foundation for safe, respectful, and professional therapeutic practice. CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist practising in the Person-Centred Approach. In addition to my core training, I am committed to ongoing professional development. I regularly engage in a wide range of CPD activities to deepen my knowledge in areas such as trauma, neurodiversity, cultural sensitivity, and other areas focusing on mental health. I also attend regular clinical supervision to ensure safe, ethical, and reflective practice.

Graduation Cap and Diploma

BA (Hon) in Pedagogy Level 6

I hold a degree in Pedagogy from overseas, which is focused on the psychological, emotional, and educational development of children and young people. This background informs my understanding of developmental processes and the ways early life experiences can shape our adult lives.

This list reflects common themes I work with, but it is not exhaustive. If what you are facing is not mentioned here, it does not mean it is any less important or that therapy is not right for you. I welcome you to get in touch and we can arrange a free 20-minute call to talk about what is going on and explore how I may be able to support you.

just as I am, then I can change.”
